Holly is a quiet girl who is used to looking after herself and spends a lot of time on her own with her books and her imagination. But even the biggest bookworms can do with a few close friends.

Holly’s mum works nights and spends a lot of time with her boyfriend, who Holly doesn’t like. When Holly’s packed off on the train to her dad’s house and her mum asks a stranger to look after her, she is lucky that the stranger is Nina Nightingale – who happens to be the author of some of her favourite books!

When the pair discover that Holly’s dad is working abroad, leaving Holly stranded over the holidays, Nina invites her to join their family on their (rather dramatic) trip.

This book is about relationships and friendships and how they can grow out of the most difficult – and unusual – situations.
