You Tell Me
Have you met PC Plod? Do you know what a ‘nooligan’ is? Have you ever wondered where broccoli comes from? Are you sure you want to know?
Welcome to the anarchic world of Michael Rosen and Roger McGough, playful poets who treat language like a football to be kicked around and bounced off walls. There’s a wealth of rhythms and rhymes in these wickedly funny poems about childhood, school and bad habits.
Be warned: some are not for the faint-hearted. ‘The Lesson’, for example, comes with the disclaimer: ‘Contains scenes of cartoon violence which some adults may find unsettling’. Some are utter nonsense. Why, for example, does Grandpa take his bucket for a walk? And some are downright gross. You probably DO NOT want to know where broccoli comes from. But there’s no sense like nonsense. Who would have thought poetry could be so much fun?
